Diabetic Inhaler

Diabetic Inhaler

Diabetic Inhaler

Asthmatics have long been familiar with using inhaled medications to treat their disease, but one of the newest forms of treatment for the diabetic is the diabetic inhaler. It has long been know that many medications work extremely well when inhaled into the lungs, and the diabetic inhaler uses a form of insulin that is readily absorbed by the lungs and goes quickly into the blood stream where it mediates the passage of glucose from the blood into the cell where it is uses for energy. Insulin has been in use since the 1920’s and is the preferred drug of choice to help lower excessively high levels of blood glucose such as those seen in many diabetics. It is these high levels of glucose which can cause the worst effects of diabetes such as blindness, peripheral neuropathy, kidney failure, liver problems, heart problems, coma, and even death.

Traditionally insulin has been taken by the diabetic either by self administered injection or by the use of a surgically implanted insulin pump. The diabetic inhaler uses the new form of insulin called Exubera.

normal blood sugar values

Is there really a such thing as a normal blood sugar value? Normal blood sugar values can be found in several locations such as online through the American Diabetes Association. Normal blood sugar values are a great way for medical professionals all over the globe to judge and determine if someone needs a various treatment related to their diabetic glucose readings.

Without normal blood sugar values being predetermined for the diabetic patient and the medical staff to go by our bodies would be having a yoyo inside our body, up and down, up and down whirlwinds because our blood glucose wouldn’t be able to stay regulated long enough for all of our organs to work properly so our bodies would go into shock from all of the constant number changes and blood glucose levels. By having normal blood sugar values our doctor’s and physicians know how to treat us if our numbers are out of whack and not maintained.

Signs and Symptoms of Hyperglycemia

signs and symptoms of hyperglycemiaSigns and symptoms of hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, are almost always an indicator of developing diabetes. Diabetes comes in two forms, type 1, or juvenile diabetes, and type 2, or adult onset diabetes, either type has hyperglycemia as one of its main problem causing issues and it is the signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia which leads most people to the doctor for a glucose tolerance test in order to determine if they have diabetes.

Hyperglycemia has three classic symptoms, increased thirst, increased urination, and increased hunger. All three of these are related to the fact that the body is attempting to rid itself of excess glucose. Diabetes develops when the body is no longer able to produce insulin or the cells of the body have become resistant to the action of insulin. This causes glucose levels to rise because it is only through the action of insulin that glucose can pass through cell walls to be used for energy. Because glucose is such a large molecule it attracts water to itself, pulling water out of the spaces between the cells, and as the body tries to get rid of excess glucose through the kidneys it causes increased urination. Increased urination leads to dehydration which causes the increased thirst. Since the glucose can’t pass through the cell walls and feed the cells the body thinks it is starving and so hunger increases. Of course fatigue, weight loss, dry mouth, blurred vision, slowed healing are all also signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia.
