signs of being a diabetic

Do you know the signs of being a diabetic? Diabetes is a very serious disease and should be checked out at the first thought of having the disease. Diabetes is where the body produces too little of the chemical known as insulin. Insulin is one of the body’s most important chemicals. It is responsible for the energy that you have. It takes the glucose in the blood and changes it into fuel that the body’s cells can use.

So when the pancreas produces to little insulin the glucose levels rise to very high levels. The high glucose levels wreak havoc upon the body damaging the heart, kidneys, nerves, and eventually blindness. Making knowing whether you have or are risk of diabetes a need to know. This is the causes of being a diabetic.

There are many signs of being a diabetic that can tell you of nearing diabetes, including test your doctor can perform to give an accurate diagnose. Many of them may seem normal for a short amount of time but are not normal. Excessive thirst, excessive urination, unexplained weight loss, altered mental status, and excessive eating are all symptoms. Excessive thirst is caused by excessive urination; the body urinates to rid itself of the excess glucose that is damaging it, thus creating the need to replenish the body.

Medication for Peripheral Neuropathy

medication for peripheral neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition in which some form of damage is occurring to the nerves of the body that are located outside the brain and spinal column, medication for peripheral neuropathy can be any one of a large number of drugs that are commonly prescribed.

The disease most often afflicts those who suffer from diabetes, though it can be caused by other processes. Peripheral neuropathy may involve severe pain, numbness and loss of sensation, and even problems with motor control and even autonomic function. The disease can be divided into two subgroups, mononeuropathy when only a single nerve is affected, and polyneuropathy when many different nerves are affected.

Medication for peripheral neuropathy is often dependent on which symptoms the disease presents with in a particular individual. In cases where only minor nerve damage is present and the pain and associated symptoms are also minor, over the counter pain medications may be sufficient to alleviate the symptoms. In more severe cases narcotic pain relievers are sometimes prescribed, but these are usually frowned upon due to the risk of drug dependency.

Does your cat have feline diabetic neuropathy?

feline diabetic neuropathy

feline diabetic neuropathy

Feline diabetic neuropathy is the loss of nerves particularly in the legs do to hypoglycemia. This is from damage due to high levels of glucose in the blood that over time damage nerves. Feline diabetic neuropathy symptoms include weakness, pain, tingling, and paralysis. These can be seen in a cats hind legs becoming weak or the cat not moving as much as before. Often this is ignored by the owner as a symptom of an aging cat. The loss of the feeling (or the pain) in the legs will make the cat limp along and no longer jump.

Canine diabetic neuropathy is less common but does happen and is seen by the dog’s legs becoming weaker or becoming unusable. But the canine diabetic neuropathy can be reversed with the right treatment. Feline diabetic neuropathy can be reversed in the early stages of its attacks on the nerves. With the proper diet and exercise with methyl-b12 a cats feline diabetic symptoms can be reversed. The feline diabetic neuropathy destroys the nerves by blocking the capillaries that carry the nutrients to the nerve cells starving them to death. The supplement methyl b-12 works by rebuilding the nerve cells in the nerves. Other B-12 vitamins don’t work and are shown to do nothing in studies.

Carb Counting for Diabetics

Carb Counting for Diabetics

Carb Counting for Diabetics

Carb counting for diabetics is a relatively new concept. Not long ago, very few people had even heard of carbs, or carbohydrates, as they are properly called, and the idea of a diet, whether for weight loss or diabetes control was largely that a person should simply not eat very much at all. Time was when the dietary restrictions for diabetics largely centered on keeping the intake of sugary foods and sweets to a bare minimum. Fortunately, current ideas about dietary restrictions for diabetics center more on carb counting for diabetics instead of simply eschewing all sugars and sweets.

Many times, when a person thinks of diabetes the first thing that comes to mind is that sugar intake must be limited. Many people are simply uneducated as to the fact that the sugars that build up in the bloodstream of the diabetic is called glucose and is a sugar that is processed from all the carbohydrates that the body takes in, this means that not only is the chocolate bar dangerous, but the big bowl of white rice or the buttery baked potato and white bread can be an enormous no-no for the diabetic. Even basic carb counting tells us that these starchy foods are quickly converted directly into glucose by the body.
